Wilderness Camping For Specks In Northern Ontario

Wilderness camping for specks in northern Ontario can be a very exciting and fulfilling
experience. You will enjoy nature at its best.
Whether you set up camp for a night, or set up a camp for a few days you’ll be sure to have an
experience of a lifetime. Up early in the morning to get on the water at first light, exploring and sight seeing
all day, then for some early evening fishing.
After a long day on the water of exploring and fishing for brook trout its nice to come back to
a camp that’s properly set up. All that fresh air can wear a person out
The smell of a pot of coffee or tea brewing over the campfire, the loons weary call echoing
over the lake, food cooking on an open fire, the sun setting on the horizon turning the sky into a palette of
orange and blue and dark grey's, does it get any better?
Just be sure if using a tent to set up the fire far enough away form the tent so that sparks
can't burn holes in the fabric.
The moon raises over the water leaving silvery fingers shimmering across the water. The stars
are sparkling in the evening sky. You set there watching the smoke drifting heavenward remembering the days
events.
A word of caution here though, be sure to check with provincial authorities to be sure you can
have an open fire. Sometimes the forests and surrounding areas are extremely dry, do to the lack of rain, and a
fire would be a safety hazard. At such times you need to use a small camp stove.
There are many methods to arrive at your wilderness camp. Some fly-in and get dropped off on
the shore of a lake, usually the bush pilot will make a mid-week fly over to check on you.
You can get dropped off in the middle of the wilderness by means of a train. They will pick you
back up in a few days to a week later. I think the majority of wilderness camps are set up as a result of canoe or
boat trips, in our case in search of that secret brook trout paradise.
