Canoeing in Northern
Ontario can be exhilarating, tiring, and relaxing at the
same time. You can paddle along quietly flowing rivers and back
lakes that contain nice size brook trout. and even catch a
glimpse of a moose and her calf feeding in the
shallows.
You might also be canoeing a
river where you are boxed in by walls of granite
shooting straight up 3-4 hundred feet. The choices range from
canoeing smaller lakes that are connected by means of small
creeks, to canoeing down giant rivers where you have to portage
around massive falls.
There are canoe routes that take a few
hours to complete. Or you could decide to canoe a route that
takes weeks to explore. Routes that require little knowledge of
canoeing to routes that you’d best be a skilled and seasoned
canoeist.
Provincial parks are great places to
canoe in search of the beautifully colored brook trout. Or try
one of the rivers that run forcefully though the tundra into
Hudson and James Bay. Many a superb brook trout have been taken
from these locations.
The sights of nature at its best, is
what you will see as you canoe your way silently along these
water ways. Mink, otters, black bear, deer, ducks, geese,
animals all the way up to the majestic polar bear. Not to
mention the chance to land a brookie of a lifetime.
So as you can see the choices of
canoeing in Northern Ontario for brook trout are
endless. Cost can range from a few dollars to several thousand
dollars depending on your wallet and taste.
